Pepper my pipe and a 4 o’clock tea
And little blue notes sent between you and me
Some just say hi, another fall down
Some are for calling and having around

Special to own and special to bring
A note can say just about anything
From Cannes and Lotrec, and the sleuth and the vill’n
To bagel and jelly, a sliver of melon

A walk on the beach, the mystical seven
Your lines so godaddy as if made in heaven
But the thrills and a sundress, a tux and a pen
A pleasant surprise to see you again

For all that we are and all that we be
Little blue notes sent between you and me.

We called out once the afternoon
Unable to rise from tired blankets
That so separated our fallen backs from the ground
So very deeply tinged lilac and golden baby powder
You reached skyward to the heavens
Arms measured carefully along the other
My voice aloud counting the wind
That crept so slow along the flatland
An artifice

But it is not that it is a sad day,
It is that yesterday is a new home
And we are filled with warm thoughts
And fresh, pungent, still desire
And we listen to the one song
That remains still the air
An able, abiding whisper.

A Person’s Worth
